Did you know?Top facts about Merseyrail’s performance

Over the last few years, we have been making significant improvements across the network, and have achieved a great deal of recognition for a range of our activities. In particular:

  • We are in the top 3 train companies in the UK for punctuality and reliability, averaging just over 95%.

  • We have the lowest average fares in the country and increases are limited to no more than the rate of inflation for the next 20 years.

  • We have refurbished the fleet of 59 trains and improved our cleaning.

  • We have completed a number of station and car park improvement schemes, in partnership with Merseytravel and Network Rail, including providing new shelters throughout the network and free parking at Merseyrail stations.

  • All of stations are accredited as “Secure” by the Department for Transport, making us one of the safest rail networks in the country.

  • We have increased the number of 6-carriage trains and aim to do more to match passenger numbers to capacity wherever possible.

  • We have installed, extended and upgraded the CCTV on all 59 trains and 66 stations and employed 35 more security officers.

  • We have put electronic ticket gates at 7 of the busiest stations, and have a new system for issuing tickets at 62 stations.

  • We have opened ‘MtoGo’ shops in 3 stations.

  • We have introduced school liaison officers.

  • We have provided new and refurbished toilet facilities at a number of stations.

  • We now have more Customer Information Screens on platforms than ever before.

  • We are working on a simplified and more consistent Penalty Fares scheme, making it easier to combat fare dodging and anti-social behaviour.
