General comments about our services
The issues most commonly mentioned by respondents were:
- Lack of security (24.8% of respondents) - some respondents were concerned about anti-social behaviour, and suggested increasing police presence and prosecution, as well as providing better lighting and more CCTV.
- The service is satisfactory (18.7% of respondents) - these respondents said that no further improvements were necessary and they were pleased with the services.
- Increase capacity (7.9% of respondents) - some respondents would like Merseyrail to reduce overcrowding by providing longer, more frequent services.
It is good to know that many respondents are already happy with our services, and many people don’t use our trains simply because they have no reason to travel. However, we are still improving, particularly with regards to the key priorities of security and capacity.
Ongoing improvements:
- We have extended and upgraded the CCTV on all trains and stations, and employed 35 more security officers.
- We have gained “secure” accreditation from the Department for Transport for all of our stations, making us one of the safest rail networks in the country.
- We are working on a simplified and more consistent Penalty Fares scheme, to make it easier to combat fare dodging and anti-social behaviour.
- We are increasing capacity by providing more trains with 6 carriages and increasing the frequency of some high patronage services. We intend to do more to match passenger numbers to the capacity of trains wherever we can.
